Conception Season
CONCEPTION SEASON
Merry Christmas. A supernatural season, which has become synonymous with relaxation, family time, reflection and off course indulgence. No other season matches the emotions felt during Christmas, whether it be the highs of excitement or the lows of loneliness. Commonly it is accepted as a time to remember the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. The Bible does not give us an exact date for the birth of Jesus, but there are some plausible theories to suggest that He was born on 25 December. When studying through history and literature though, it is also likely that He was not actually born on 25 December. For most Christians, the date is irrelevant, and the focus is on the fact that Jesus was born, despite the enemy’s best attempts, and because of His birth we have been redeemed. Most Christians have become thick skinned to the comments from haters who mockingly suggest that we merely celebrate a pagan holiday in ignorance. The date doesn’t matter, any day set aside to reflect on the birth and life of our Saviour is welcomed. So, Merry Christmas.
If you’ve kept reading to this point, then it’s possible that maybe you search for something deeper? Maybe you’ve had enough of the over-eating, fake smiles and pretending to get along with every single family member at the gathering! Maybe in all the hype you’ve found a moment to actually spend a few moments with God on Christmas, in search of a word in season. Well, it is highly unlikely that Jesus was born on 25 December. December would have been winter in Bethlehem, and there would have been no shepherds out at night. Their presence suggests that Jesus was born in Spring or Summer. Many Biblical scholars suggest that Jesus was born on the feast of Yom Kippur, as He was the one who would atone for the sins of man. This is further supported by the fact that the Roman government planned the census during Yom Kippur to ease administration. Also, a possible reason why all guest houses were full, as many had entered the city for this reason.
Further evidence comes from the timing of the birth of his cousin, John the Baptist. John’s father Zacharias was a priest serving in the temple during the course of Abijah, historically corresponding to mid-June that year. John the Baptist was conceived when his father returned home from this service. Assuming John was conceived towards the end of June, he was born around the end of March the following year. Elizabeth was 6 months ahead of Mary in her pregnancy, thus Jesus would have been born towards the end of September.
Bearing this in mind, and taking into account the gestational period, it is likely that 25 December is actually the time when Jesus was conceived. His conception was much more supernatural than His birth, making 25 December an auspicious date. From the account given in the Bible, Jesus was conceived after Mary had been visited by an angel. Once the angel announced God’s plan for her, take note of Mary’s response.
Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel left her. – Luke 1:38, AMP
Mary’s response was to agree with God’s word concerning her. Prophetically, we are in a season of conception. At this time, many years ago, Jesus was conceived and through His conception countless prophecies were suddenly fulfilled. Now, many years later I encourage you to move according to God’s spiritual rhythm and allow conception in your spirit. In order to agree with God’s word concerning you, you must first know what God’s word is concerning you. It would be wonderful if we all had a prophet like Samuel on hand to constantly give us the word of the Lord. We don’t, and our modern-day prophets might have taken Christmas off. Never mind, we are in the season of conception and if we sit with God during this time, He will surely impregnate our spirit with His will. To conceive means to devise a plan or an idea in the mind. If we allow our spirit to align with the Spirit of God, not only will we receive His word and plan concerning us, but also the plan and strategy we need to thrive in the turbulent year ahead. As we receive the word of the Lord, remember the conception is only complete when we respond correctly: I am the servant of the Lord, may it always be done to me according to God’s word. Merry Christmas.
